2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the development team at 31st Union, which is currently working on the upcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.
The new appointee takes on the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to the game's underwhelming unveiling last fall.
Recently, the company's top executive a key figure notified team members about this strategic move through an official communication, which highlighted that playtesting had indicated the requirement for a more defined vision.
Ismailer expressed that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a revised approach, aiming to address player expectations.
This announcement echoes a comparable action taken by the publisher in the summer, when they brought on an industry veteran from Blizzard to assist with the BioShock development group.
Here is the complete text from Ismailer's communication:
Team—
I understand you all just completed your meeting - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Previously I shared you all a message, I stated the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most motivated and talented creators we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to persist.”
With your dedication and adaptability, especially over the last year, you repeatedly show that.
The player input from last autumn’s Project ETHOS demo was informative. It validated the promise of a action-packed game but made clear we still had work to do. It highlighted the necessity for a more distinct identity.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the feedback to consideration and overhauled Project ETHOS with a refreshed goal - one that’s ready to fulfill its promise to our fans.
The trust in this project increases every day. To advance the remarkable progress you’ve made, It is a pleasure to announce Ben Brinkman as the incoming Lead of 31st Union. Following several months of talks, Ben comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.
Ben’s guidance and background in the competitive gaming space is considerable, having dedicated the past decade and a half developing and leading some of the most popular series in the industry, such as the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, Apex Legends.
I invite you all in welcoming Ben in the coming days. We are all excited to keep observing the progress of the game in the weeks to ahead.
The President
Brinkman currently serves in the role of senior developer and production lead at the renowned studio for their flagship title. He earlier worked at major gaming companies in various development positions on the Call of Duty series, and, earlier in his career, had assignments at 2K and Electronic Arts.
The upcoming game was unveiled in last year alongside a community playtest. At the time, the developers presented the title as a "no-cost, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an exciting advancement on the genre."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in live gameplay to suit your personal playstyle," the game's pitch states. "Challenge the opponents with unique powers, challenges, and tests that change every session. Do you leave securely with your hard-earned loot? Or aim high, put it on the line, and trust your team can achieve the highest spot? The option is yours."
Project Ethos lacks an announced launch window or platforms, but enthusiasts can anticipate additional details as production advances.
